Here’s an amazing opportunity to watch what could be the single most cool automotive event in the world, the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This is the incredible event that is held on a massive English estate every year and is comprised of multiple events and facets but it is the hill climb that really draws them out. Race cars from as early as the dawn of the 20th century up to the current incredible crop of Formula One cars are represented and over the years, everything from the Hurst Hemi Under Glass to Richard Petty have hammered the hill with American iron. We’re hearing that Petty’s 1970 Superbird will be part of the fun this year so that makes some sense, right?
The hillclimb is a 1.16 mile course and the record of 41.6 second was set back in 1999 and no one has been able to touch it since. We have no idea if anyone will be running hard enough to take it away from Nick Heidfeld but we’re hoping that someone is going to try. Other elements that make this event unique are the facts that there’s a ton of manufacturer participation. Honda is this year’s big supporter and they are rolling out a new model at the event, there is a dress code that you need to adhere to in order to get inside the gates, and the hill climb groups are done in themes. You won’t see F1 cars with historic stock cars for example. In that way it is super fun to watch.

Goodwood Festival of Speed – LIVE stream – 25th… by Goodwoodroadandracing
I wanted to go but was broke. Finally got some money but too busy to go. Oh well… next year… like i’ve said for many past years,
I don’t think there is a dress code for the Festival but there is for the Goodwood Revival in September at the nearby race track.
Commercial right now but this is great coverage. Interviews with drivers and video of the runs from a bunch of angles. Lots f variety, NASCAR cars, Baja trucks, Dakar rally heavy trucks, drift cars…
They push started the Allard fuel dragster. Ken Block’s 65 Mustang is there.
This is totally awesome! An event I have always wanted to visit, maybe next year while Joanie celebrates her 60th.
All I can say is Thanks for the link.
Did Don Garlits put in a demo run yesterday?
Garlits did a great one, push start, smoked the “tyres” real hard then idled up the rest of the course.
