After pleading guilty to charges that he was instrumental in the VW “dieselgate” scandal, Oliver Schmidt the man who ran VW’s environmental and engineering office has been handed a seven year prison sentence. The sentence was on the stiffer end of the potential penalty scale and along with the jail sentence came a $400,000 fine.
Schmidt who is a German native maintained that VW had, in his words, “misused” him. The prosecution painted a far different picture and judge Sean Cox took their side in both his remarks to Schmidt and his decision to basically throw the book at him. Schmidt was in the room during important meetings, especially those in California where the whole diesel cheating program began to unravel.
The story is pretty fascinating and the fact that people are actually going to prison over this is kind of amazing considering all of the other junk that has gone down over the last decade or so that no one has seen the inside of a jail cell for.
How many of those seven years will Schmidt serve? Only time will tell. One thing we do know is that we would not want to be heading in there and having to answer the question of, “What are you in for?” by saying something about cheating automotive exhaust emissions.

We’ve seen this story play out before. He’ll probably spend one night in the clink, and his lawyers will get another judge to stay the sentence pending an appeal.
Then the world will stop caring, and he’s off to retire in a country with no extradition.
I’m not an attorney, that’s just how it happens in movies.
So what about two life sentences for the total dweeb that invented the LS?
Do you guys even have prisons over there? Or do punish people by making them drink tea and watch Downton Abbey?
How about a life sentence w/o internet access for the inbred english one trick pony?

What’s ” soap on a rope” in German?
We did this throughout the 80s and 90s in California to our muscle cars –> detune them to pass the smog test, then adjust back to max performance after the test!!!
Really Politically Incorrect currently. Everything is political these days.
I think “Seife auf unt seil” is soap on a rope in German but I haven’t spoken any since high school 100 years ago.
” …einem seil” checked online. Good enough good sir!!!
In lieu of “soap on a rope”…. perhaps some veenieschlider (Vasoline) might be more useful……..
Gee. I hope VW doesn’t have to give back their “Green Car of the Year”
awards.
I hope the public quits buying from these “Fart-fig-newton” criminals.
