This 1976 Ford F-250 Crew Cab Is A Little Rough Around The Roof But We Love It All The Same

So I have been gingerly poking around the internet for a 1970s era Ford truck lately and while I have not found the truck I want to bid on, I have found a load of cool trucks that anyone who is into these things would like. Take for instance this 1976 Ford F-250 crew cab, a rarity for its age and a pretty clean piece overall. The seller is really honest with the description and photos as well. One of the things I noticed on this truck that has not seemed prevalent on others is rust on the roof, specifically above the doors. Is that weird or is that common on these trucks? I have seen loads of them with the lower fenders rotted away but this roof stuff seems kind of strange.

Mechanically the truck has what I want, mainly a clutch pedal. I love the long shifters in these things as I have childhood memories of working the gear lever in my dad’s king cab version of this truck. This truck is also a four wheel drive, which is what I want and it has the 360 engine which, let’s be honest, is OK but certainly will require some love and attention to make anywhere near an acceptable level of horsepower. Other than the valve covers, the engine looks like a stocker to us, so it is a perfect time to breathe some life into the FE. Ok fine, I’d want to put a 428 in it because that would be rad.

This truck seems genuinely well cared for and that’s cool. The ride height, the look with the wheels, and all the rest of it seem neat. Just that roof rust though…hmmmm.

Thats a pretty cool truck! I had the children of that truck. A 77 reg cab hi-boy F250 with a 400M 4 speed and a 78 crew cab F250 but not a hi-boy, first year of the wider frame, with a 400M and an automatic. Both solid trucks. Neither had roof rust. Does that truck have disc or drum brakes?

That truck probably came from a humid climate, I’ve seen vehicles from places like s.e Texas and Georgia get rust in that area due to condensation under the roof skin.

Common problem on the crew cabs. Didn\’t get painted on the inside from the factory and the humidity gets to them. They basically rust from the inside out.

The windshield rust is more common than you think, it actually starts at the drip rail and water pools in the inside structure and sloshes across to both sides taking them out, I know I just finished the metal work on a 79.
