(Photos provided by Mint 400) – Roger Starkey claims victory last weekend at the Limited race as part of the 2014 Polaris RZR Mint 400 presented by General Tire. The grueling contest that pits man and machine against a race course that seems devised by mother nature to either swallow the cars or the hopes and dreams of the drivers in them whole has been a part of the off road racing scene for decades and is definitely a huge part of the American motorcports scene again. This was Roger Starkey’s second time running the Mint 400 and his first victory. He was running against a varied and talented field of competitors that included other hitters like Chad Dorhman and Chip Prescott. The hot, dusty conditions tested the mettle of the drivers and the quality of their equipment for sure.

The Limited race had stuff ranging from side by side UTVs to vintage trucks, and buggies, VWs, and many other classes as well. The event is setup so the limited race is run in the morning and the Unlimited race with the big trophy trucks and all happens in the afternoon. All the Limited class vehicles do a nice job of churning up the course for their stronger brethren in the afternoon. The Mint 400 goes by the tag line of being the “Great American Off-Road Race” and the recent surge in popularity of off-road and desert racing has really put it back on the map. Lots of young guys dream about winning the Mint 400 now and that was something that wasn’t really said for a stretch of time.

After checking out these photos, you’ll see why people love this racing so much. The action is wild!
