A Finnish Tire Company Just Set A Speed Record For A Tractor In The Snow

81 miles an hour might not sound all that impressive for a lot of vehicles, but for a tractor, that’s seriously hauling the mail. Pulling that stunt in the snow sounds exceptionally dangerous, but don’t worry: this is Finland and the driver, Juha Kankkunen, is a four-time World Rally champion, so if there is anyone else that’s better qualified to handle whatever happens in the snow, nobody has found them yet. The entire reason for gaining the Guinness World Record is a marketing move for Finnish tire manufacturer Nokian, who recently released the Hakkapeliitta TRI, the first winter tire for tractors, and wanted to prove the tire’s capabilities. Bolted up to a Valtra T234 tractor that only received some computer tuning, Kankkunen pushed the Valtra to an official record of 130.165 KPH (80.880 MPH). And the noise it makes as it freight-trains it’s way down a plowed path is just amazing. Somebody check on Lohnes in a day or so and make sure he isn’t trying to get a flight to Helsinki, please…
