(By Greg Rourke) – In the rental business we have customers that we’re sure could f up an anvil. It turns out that can actually happen. Here we have the New England Blacksmiths anvil repair workshop helping a blacksmith repair his 19th century anvil.
I used to think if i’d been born 100 years earlier I would have been a blacksmith, but after watching a few actual smiths working, I retract that statement. Hot, dirty, hard work. I learned that a new smithy would buy an anvil and the tongs, and everything else had made. Makes sense, you need the tongs to hold the piece you’re making. And while I’m a big fan of my welding jacket, gloves, and hood with a gold cover plate, real smithys had zero safety equipment. Just a leather apron. So yeah, my man card doesn’t have enough punches.
Check out this 21st century smithy making his 18th century anvil ready for another 100 years of service.
