Sema Show 2015 Coverage: An Ariel Atom Meets Mad Max – The Most Off The Wall Thing Ever

No, we’re not sure why someone would spend what had to have been years of their lives welding, bending, and manipulating seemingly miles of steel tubing like this but we’re damned glad that they did. This monster is sitting outside of the main hall at the 2015 SEMA show and there are really no words to describe it and there’s really nothing else to compare it to, that we’ve ever seen anyway. The best we can do is mention that it is kind of like an Ariel Atom running head on into Mad Max and emerging as this.

Powered by a 302i Ford Coyote DOHC V8 engine and capable of seating five people, it is sculpture as much as it is function. We’re sure that it runs, drives, and steers as their is evidence of all that stuff happening when you look at it. What’s really funny about the monster is that when you look at it from afar you appreciate the odd shape and the weird lines, and you know that it is something that doesn’t really jive with anything that you have seen before but when you see it up close, when you take the time to look at it, that’s when your mind really blows up. The amount of welding here, the amount of art being exhibited here, and the amount of time spent to create it all boggles the mind.

We’re going to try and dig up more dirt on this creation but until we do, check out the photos below. We’re calling the the Mad Max Ariel Atom, can you do better?

I agree with Raymond above – I definitely wouldn’t get in it.

Actually I think most of the earlier comments sum it up.

An old saying comes to mind, beauty is in the eye of the BEER holder but seriously how many BEERS do think this guys had.

Should make a competition out of – drop your guess into a barrel with the amount and lets see who guess’s it. Announce the winner at Sema.

    It would be awesome. LOL

I can say he likes to weld! What? I have no idea!

He looks like a cross between an offroad buggy and an amusement park ride.

Whoever built this is heavily into rock racers – its really a tarted-up long wheelbase rock racer on acid………it seems those little multi coloured pills are making a come back all of a sudden. But stay away from the brown ones….

Man, the haters! I appreciate it for its originality… the thing took a lot of someone’s hard work and time, and is very obviously something that they poured their vision into.

It combines some interesting artistry with truly abysmal engineering – the way the front end joins the chassis would be Exhibit A for how not to design a tube chassis. This is the sort of thing that looks cool at first until you start to visualize how stresses act on the chassis – and at that point, I can’t get past the structural problems.

As for what to call it – with the set of gears on the top, I’m going to call it “a clockwork strange.”

Guys, it’s for Burning Man most likely. I saw a suspiciously similar vehicle out there, same oversized tire, long wheelbase overdone crazy pipe framework going on as that one. It’s likely the same people. It is more designed to putt around at low speeds with a bunch of naked glitter covered spring break type chicks hanging off it (chicks dig art cars), and is probably only plated for ambling around town and to local shows and such.

Make fun of it all you like, but if it’s a Burning Man rig it’s seen more snatch than Guy Ritchie. The builder knew exactly what he was doing.
