This is must view BangShifty video. A 1943 film called Autobiography of a Jeep is a telling of the Jeep story with the twist being that the whole thing is narrated by the Jeep itself. It is at times funny, touching, and cute. It is at times tough to watch, especially when the Jeeps are shown carrying the wounded or in areas of active fighting. There are a million “insert thing here” that won the war statements that can be made and the Jeep falls into many of them. What won was a confluence of things but the Jeep was certainly a part of the whole machine that was victorious.
We love the parts of the video that show the Jeeps being put through tests and maneuvers and the parts of the film that show the Jeeps being floated across rivers, driving past the pyramids in Egypt, and essentially being everywhere around the globe all at once.
The most touching part of the whole thing (and yes, we did think it was touching) was when the “Jeep” was referring to his best friend, the soldier. We were not around to see what WWII looked like. We can only relive the whole thing though stuff like this and every time we watch a film such as this one or just read up on the way the country operated during the conflict it seems so improbably awesome as compared to the currently climate in the world.
There are some of you who may think that this is a corny old video but we think it is lots more than that. This is a love letter to the pluggy little 2,200lb midget bastard that did everything the Army asked it to and then some more. It launched a brand and a name that is still red hot today.
