This 1967 Clark Cortez Would Make The Ultimate Summer Road Trip Machine

I’m a sucker for cool old motorhomes and travel trailers. I’m not the ultimate expert on them, but I do know that the Clark Cortez motorhomes are unique in that their bodies are made of steel instead of fiberglass or aluminum like most rvs. That makes them incredibly strong, but it also means that they do tend to rust. The Clark Cortez was built from 1963 to 1979 by the same Clark that built forklifts, which may be why they are built like a tank.

To keep things low, improving the handling of this bad boy, Clark used a front wheel drivetrain. Early models like this 1967 came with a Slant 6 and 4 speed manual trans. This one has had an engine swap to a 318 it seems, and that must make it a lot nicer to drive down the road. In 1969 Clark added V8 power themselves, but in the form of a 302 Ford. In the last two years of production you got a 455 ci Olds with an automatic.

We bet this Cortez drives better than most other early models. After all a Slant 6 isn’t exactly a powerhouse. It certainly looks well taken care of.

Kinda like this one Chad, an industrial strength motorhome. Would like to see one of the 455 powered ones. One as nice as this one has to be pretty rare.

  2. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

With a name like Cortez its probably wise to cancel that road trip to Mexico!
