Morning Symphony: Escort Mk1 With C20LET power…Nothing To See Here, Just Another GM-Powered Ford!

Morning Symphony: Escort Mk1 With C20LET power…Nothing To See Here, Just Another GM-Powered Ford!

The name says it all: Fraudster. The hood spells it out even clearer: FRAUD. It looks like an early Escort, the kind that is now worth stupid money, the kind that still make for gorgeous rally footage, the little car that Europe wanted when it debuted for 1968. It isn’t often we see one prepared for drag racing, and it’s a one-of-one kind of day when we find one that’s powered by the same turbo-four engine that you would find in an Opel Calibra from the early 1990s, the C20LET dual overhead cam 2.0L unit. So, be happy it’s not an LS swap, but fume all you want that yet another Ford product is being powered by something from GM. It’s okay to be brand-loyal, I get that. But watch this little blue beast launch off of the line at Santa Pod as it runs down to another mid-8 second lap…we don’t care if the engine came out of a 1989 Hyundai at that point, we’re completely interested in the program that Kevin Jenkins is running here. You have to respect his willingness to call himself out all over the car! Inside or out, this Escort has the soundtrack down for an angry four-banger that can get the job done.

I really like cars that take a different path, cool Escort, a runner too. Another Ford Chevy fast!

Nothing To See Here – just another Ford ruined by being infected by GM shit!
