Are The V8 Raptor Rumors True? Is A Baby Godzilla On The Way? More Here –

(By Tom Lohnes) – Well, it appears after almost a year of hype for a V8 powered Raptor, a new one is coming…with the same Ecoboost V6 from the old one.

Retaining the 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 from the previous-generation truck and possibly throwing in some electric motors, the Raptor appears to fall short of the thunderous Ram 1500 TRX. With “only” 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft on tap, the current Raptor does the sprint to 0-60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds, and passes the 1320-foot mark in 14.4. Not bad at all for a pickup truck, but when your opponent literally out-accelerates a Mustang GT350R, you have some work to do.

Ford recently filed for a patent on a downsized version of the Super Duty’s 7.3-liter “Godzilla” V8, and we all thought that was making it’s way into the Raptor, but there seems to be no link between the two. Because of the carryover engine, the 10-speed automatic will likely come too, as well as a grille that will be knocked-off and put on standard 14th-gen trucks in no time at all, as did with the current truck.

So, maybe the Raptor will be cheaper than the TRX, but it looks like Ford will need to overengineer everything else in this truck to compensate for its 252 less horsepower than the TRX.
