Horsepower Costs Money: Wrangler 392 Pricing Is Coming In Hot – Have $70,000+ For A Jeep?

(By Tom Lohnes) – The Ram 1500 TRX might be the craziest truck ever made, pushing 700 horsepower, doing the sprint from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, and being the single best factory rig in the dunes as of now. Ram knew all that so the company decided that it deserves its base price of a hair over $70,000. Seems legit to us, especially with how unique and cool that it is.

What doesn’t deserve this price? The Jeep Wrangler 392.

It is no secret at all that the Jeep Wrangler is not cheap. Starting at $30,000, it lacks features such as power windows and locks. The top-of-the-line Rubicon trim with the diesel V6 equipped comes in at a whopping $57,500. Well, for $20,000 more, you can have one with the 392 Hemi V8 that is seen and available in nearly every FCA vehicle across all platforms.

That’s right, a Jeep Wrangler with a relatively simple engine swap will cost you $77,000 at the very least. Even though packed with features, the Wrangler isn’t exactly as refined as many of its competitors, and being $7,000 more than the crazed, hellcat-powered, Ram TRX doesn’t help its case in my broke, teenaged opinion.

Yes, it is true this will be a limited edition program with only 392 Wranglers are being produced but charging this much seems pretty steep. I personally would much rather be whipping donuts in the sand while simultaneously gapping a 10-year-old Ferrari at the drag strip in my TRX than crawling up some rocks and tossing my lunch up after bouncing around all day. That being said, how awesome is the fact that this Jeep is even being made at all, right?

I may not be one of them but there are plenty of people out there who will shell out 80 large for a V8 Wrangler. Are there 392 o them? I bet there are. This said, my advice? Hellcat truck.

having owned a Jeep, I wouldn’t pay 5 dollars for one of these POS. Was horsepower really the issue, or poor build quality?

I’ll bet you won’t be able to buy one for 77k. Greedy dealers will want $100K just like the Corvette. I’m sure one will pop up at BJ.
