Previously on QuarantinePiece Theater I have showed you a few classic drag racing films. Today? Today we’re heading into the fields with this killer 1967 Massey Ferguson film called “The Red Giants”. This was the rollout video for the MF 1100 and MF 1130 tractors, machines with 94hp and 120hp respectively. This was also an effort to make sure that people knew Massey Ferguson was in the larger tractor game and not just the small farm equipment business that people kind of thought they were. It’s about engineering, power, and the features that farmers could apply in doing their work day in and day out.
We have talked about it before but this was a period in the farm tractor world where the term “muscle tractor” applies today. Now we’d not necessarily call the 1100 a muscle tractor but the 1130 with its 120hp and mid-sized spot definitely land in that place for us. Given to farmers with acreage raging from 1,000 to nearly 4,000 the results were favorable and as you’ll see, they put these babies to work! The open platform muscle tractors are among our favorite around here and the 1130 ticks all the boxes.
This is a cool, well-made film that definitely gives the perspective tractor buyer think about MF as an option for their farm. It was definitely a time in history where power was a selling point just like it was for cars and trucks. We dig the interviews with the farmers using the tractors themselves as well. The dude talking about the traction in wet soil is pretty great.
If you love old tractors, this is one film you’ll enjoy every second of.

We were Massey dealers in the late 60’s throughout the 70’s. That style of tractor was my favourite era. No computers to fail. Very little breakage. These tractors just go and go and go. We still have a couple of 1100’s, a 165 and some 135’s.
