What’s more awesome than a hot rodded big rig? We don’t really know of anything more awesome than a hot rodded big rig, seriously. Take this video for example. The truck in question is a Western Star that is packing a C15 Caterpillar engine and an appetite for pulling. That’s right. This rig is street legal but on the weekends it like to be hooked to the sled and really putting in some work. It has to be hilarious to drive on the street, right? Nearly 900hp to the tires and 2,200 lb-ft of torque. Good gravy.
The C15 is a 928ci inline six engine. They have a factory rating up to 625hp and a torque output of about 1,200 lb-ft out of the box. Those are both flywheel numbers. The giant hunk of iron weighs nearly 3,100lbs. Taking driveline losses into consideration, this thing is making some humongous horsepower and torque. We do not know what transmission is passing all of that power to the axles but boy its sure a workhorse!
It is fun to watch the dials on the dyne screen as the truck gets loaded down and really hammers the rollers. The video states that a bad injector was found and repaired, apparently leading to this result on the dyno. The neatest thing to us about huge hot rods like this is that you’d never know that there was a monster lurking below the surface of this rig. Looks like any other truck not the road…until it blows your doors off.
I hope you reversed the first 2 digits of the torque number, those made 2050 at the flywheel
