If there is a job that we find totally awesome and yet completely terrifying at the same time, it is that of the logging truck driver. It does not matter what country you are in, what continent you are on, what machine you are piloting, these guys are excellent drivers and they are as brave as the day is long.
Seriously, those trees are not going to get themselves out of the forest, right? While this video does not ID country by country, it is clear to us that we visit North America, South America, Asia, and Russia (at least) in here. From grades so steep that trucks need to be pulled up them with bulldozers to downward slopes that are traversed by the power of the Jake Brake and the Holy Spirit, to trucks that range from gorgeous to ramshackle, this is amazing stuff.
Some of the neatest parts of this flick come when watching the drivers maneuver the trucks around seemingly impossible bends in the road or watching them slowly creep over bridges that don’t even look fit to walk across let alone take 40 tons over the top of! The trailer with the articulating part of rear axles is freaking awesome, the cab over drivers who are inches from dumping themselves over the edge or make a corner are sweet, and the low rumble of the diesel engines is torque all day long.
There’s an old Russian truck shown here at the end. That thing has massive mud tires on it and they work perfectly as the truck slogs its way through the mire, boards a ferry, and then slogs on as soon as it makes the other side of the river. So cool!
