Blog Fight: You Want A Cadillac Wagon? I Got An Eldorado Shooting Brake Right Here!

Fifty-seven thousand dollars is a lot of money to spend on a station wagon, Cadillac or otherwise. And while Brian was busy writing up the Castillian thinking he was going to bury the New York-tempered Pontiac I had put up, I was busy sliding my pocket ace out of my sleeve. See, while the Castillian is a nice piece, it’s the same as any other clamshell GM wagon, I don’t give a damn if it was built in Los Angeles. The coral-melon-Revlon paint job tells you all you need to know about that, anyways. All the Castillian amounts to is the result of a one-night tryst between a Fleetwood and a Vista Cruiser. Yawn.

To properly do a Cadillac wagon, it has to be exclusive, unique, and a touch offensive. And this 1975 Cadillac Eldorado shooting brake wagon clicks all three boxes perfectly. Unique? Sure, there’s only about fifty Castillians…but only three of these Eldorados were ever made by El Classico. Powerful? We’re at a draw, because the 500ci Caddy V8 is here too. Offensive? While a melon-colored Caddy station wagon is offensive enough for me, the Castillian is in good condition…something it had better be in for $57,000. This Eldorado is essentially complete…that means that everything that’s unique to the wagon conversion is there and in good condition, but there’s little nicks here and there that show it’s not a garage-kept queen, and one of the front bumper fillers is AWOL, nothing surprising for any 1970’s Cadillac. Considering the price difference, it’s a non-issue. As an added bonus, not only does the A/C function, but it’s been converted to R134A, so maintaining it doesn’t put you on an EPA watch-list.

And yes, the third row of seats face rearward, as they should. Why would you buy a museum piece for five times the cash when you could buy this barge and have tons of fun angering the local Sierra Club members? With a current bid of $6,400, I’ll take the fifty-something thousand left over and I’ll go buy something nice for myself. Lohnes can keep that kinda-“Pink Cadillac” for himself.

    Oh wow, this thing is bitching. I dig the paint color. And yeah, third-row seats in a wagon should always face rearward. My family had an ’85 Lesabre Limited station wagon and me and my sisters would always fight to ride in the third row

    Wagon War’s RULE! lmao!

    Rear facing back seat FTW!! AND trailer hitch! You can buy a nice boat or camp trailer with that spare $50k!

    And Bryan pulls ahead of Bruab by a 70’s bumper length!

    Hell . Ya both aint even approached ‘ Cool ‘ when it comes to wagons ! Heck y’all aint even luke warm when it comes to the ‘ cool ‘ factor .

    Pontiac wagons ? A dime a dozen .

    Cadillac wagons and ‘ Shooting Breaks ‘ ? ( spell it right if you’re gonna use the term . Not the M-B revisionist spelling ]

    As common as the rain in Seattle !

    Now a Corvette /Mustang / Camaro ‘ Shooting Break ‘ . Or better yet an Aston Martin or a 911 ( yes Bryan & Brian ; there are 911 Shooting Breaks ) Now those are …

    Cool ! 😉

      In all honesty this thing looks like a reject from some Funeral Parlors motor pool . So despite the distinct lack of ‘ cool ‘ in either’s offerings for this Battle of the Wagons blog ;

      Brian , the other Brian , is ahead by a license plate frame . Barely !

    On a serious note,……..could you make one of these old War Wagons pull maybe a 20 ft. enclosed trailer? Or are you just asking for trouble?
