Blog Fight: McTaggart’s Pontiac Wagon Is For CHUMPS! This 1976 Cadillac Castilian Wagon Is Where It’s At

Clearly McTaggart thought he was going to be the king of wagon mountain on the blog today but I have news for him. That Pontiac he found is pretty clean but let’s be honest, that thing is a loser-mobile when laid up next to the beaming awesomeness that is this 1976 Cadillac Castilian station wagon. One less than 50 such examples ever it is slightly more expensive than the Pontiac…by $50,000. I could sit here all day and tell you why it is worth that much more than the Pontiac but you’re smart enough to know that already.

With a 500ci Caddy engine under the hood making a moderate amount of smog choked horsepower, seating for nine people AND room for a two bedroom apartment, these Castilian wagons were owned by lots of rich and famous people in their day. Incidentally, most of the rich and famous people of the 1970s that owned these were probably living in them by the time the 1980s rolled around. We have showed you Castilian wagons before and what’s interesting about that is the fact that despite the low production numbers, many of them lived. They had to be insanely expensive to start with so the good news is that most were maintained like the proverbial “boy in the bubble” for their lives.

Rolling on the 133″ wheelbase chassis, Traditional Coach Works converted the cars at their Los Angeles facility and what a job they did. Where McTaggart’s Pontiac was built on an assembly line manned by people who were chugging beer and smoking weed a lunch, these things were crafted by expert metalworkers. The work to modify the body was better than OEM quality and it shows. The paint on the car looks great, the lines of the body are perfect, and even the carpet is completely sweet looking. The car has a total of 9,700 miles on it.

Now let’s be honest here. Would you really spend $7,000 on that barge of a Pontiac rather than dropping a smooth $57,000 on this exponentially superior Cadillac?

Sorry McTaggart, you can drive your Poncho down to the soup line, loser!

    Brian,

This IS better than the Pontiac. Buy this instead. You could cruise it down to Englishtown next summer.

Sorry but the disappearing tailgate and wood-grain carry the day! Plus an ironic “Pontiac Excitement” license plate on the front would be awesome.

At least it’s less ugly than that Eldorado abortion. Still wouldn’t touch it with a 1oo meter cattle prod.
