Blog War: A Return To Conventional Warfare With A Late-Model Diesel Ram Flatbed – Cummins, Manual Transmission And All

Blog War: A Return To Conventional Warfare With A Late-Model Diesel Ram Flatbed – Cummins, Manual Transmission And All

So we went way off of the deep end in the dually war…way off the deep end. That wasn’t the initial plan. To me, a good dually pickup represents my ideal of a truck: something that can work it’s ass off with no worry. I’ve looked at trucks for years, but only twice ever bit: a 2001 Dodge Ram with a 360 about ten years ago and a 1984 Ramcharger that hung around for a couple of months. I’m pretty picky about what I would accept for a truck nowadays. It has to be diesel, and I’m bent that my next vehicle, regardless of what it is, will be a manual transmission so long as my left leg works. For a truck, I want the maximum utility out of it. So when I found this 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel with a flatbed on eBay, I was sold.

This is exactly what I would buy. Right here. I don’t even care about the silver color. Where do I start? The Cummins mill underneath the hood hooked to a honest-to-God six-speed manual transmission? The Mega Cab, which is basically a Dodge Ram with the kind of interior room that makes my Chrysler 300C feel cramped? How about a straightforward, handsome without being overkill flatbed?

I could fit in this truck comfortably. If Brian and Chad rode with me in this thing, Brian would have to yell across the cab to get my attention due to the distance separating us and Chad would end up lost somewhere in the storage compartments under the backseat. This is a vehicle that I could drive cross-country and not get physically fatigued due to space limitations, and I could do it while hauling a loaded trailer. That’s a winner, right there. Brian’s Power Wagon dually might have the looks and the old-school charm, but I know which truck I’d rather spend hours in no matter the condition. What say you?

    That’s a really nice truck.

On comfort, practicality, utility and powerplant it wins hands-down.
However, the greed dually has charm and old-school appeal as well as ease of maintenance.
    Tough call…

I declare this one the winner, that green tud looks like some snot rocket I shot out earlier this morning…the only thing it has going for it is old school charm and a man pedal and, frankly…charm and a 3rd pedal only get you so far…..

trucks are meant to work, while the power wagon was cool, I’d hate to drive that across the state. frankly, though, I’d rather a mini-semi than that overpriced pickup.
