This is an interesting video…we think. Honestly it does not have a heck of a lot of action because nothing of the mechanical variety actually moves during the entire clip. That being said, having the chance to watch this Caterpillar Challenger tractor twist the PTO dyno hard is fun. Rather than spin rollers or spin a hub dyno, the massive track equipped tractor instead gets it PTO driveshaft connected to a much more compact unit and then the thing sets to work, turning said PTO shaft.
You can hear the load increase on the tractor as the time goes on through the video. The big Caterpillar diesel is a unit that farmers depend on to work properly every day and do prove enough motive force to both keep the tractor driving and then drive any number of attachments to get the work on the farm done. So, does this one have the power to run all those implements? Ummm…yes.
There are all kinds of interesting numbers to pay attention to here but the ones that got our attention were 333hp at 2,070 RPM which is interesting and certainly healthy but the good stuff was the torque numbers which were regularly over 2000 lb-ft. At one point we saw 2,245 at 732 rpm! That’s the type of awesome chugging power that a farmer needs when he is dragging a plow or working a large swath of Earth as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Like we said at the beginning. There’s not a lot of movement in this video but we think it is pretty neat!
