For 49 years the Big 3 swap meet has been the place to go to see cool stuff, sell cool stuff, and buy cool stuff. There are literally miles of aisles set up in the parking lot at the old Jack Murphy stadium in San Diego. We were there last weekend and rattled off hundreds of photos. Rather than just throw them at you like buckshot, we have broken them up into some groups so you can see what you like. This first salvo concentrates on the coolest classic trucks we saw at the event. Everything from battle hardened stuff like the Dodge above to beautiful and classically restored stuff like the Ford below, it was there. Some of these vehicles were for sale and some were for show, but in seeing the photos they all have something unique about them.
We think that it is great this event has been going on for nearly 50 years. Think of all the stuff that has happened from 1949 through today that should have/could have squashed it, right? Financial downturns, gas crunches, tree huggers, legislation, scrappage programs, the internet, want ad newspapers, and a host of other things have been conspiring against the car hobby and yet there they were and there we are. The fact that eBay and Craigslist have not stopped events like this is only due to the strength of the car community as a whole. There’s something about “being there” to touch the stuff, to bargain, and to carry your parts home that the internet will never have.
All classic trucks all the time from the Big 3 swap meet, right here!
I would like to own that W-series Ramcharger with a fiery passion.
A full ‘vert Ramcharger is one of my bucketlist vehicles…I want one and swap in a 5.9 Cummins….
It’s definitely a bucket list item for me, too!
I like the 6BT idea, but I’m leaning towards a bored and stroked 440 RB block in front of an NV4500.
I love the sound of a pissed off Mopar big block.
dude! you missed the blown pontiac powered 50s dodge truck belonging to a guy selling cactus plants! and there was also a couple driving a early 60s chevy truck mated to an 2011 dodge cummins rig!
Have another load to run tomorrow.
