(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Its time for the workhorses. I don’t think I have ever seen so many ’47-’54 Chevy pickups in one place at one time. These things were slammed, stock, ProStreet, and one appeared to be imitating a John Deere tractor. We saw plenty of Fords, Chevys, Jeeps, Studebakers, and even a few binders, but only saw one or two from the Dodge Bros. Maybe they were hiding from us. It wouldn’t have been hard to keep us from finding them.
All types of vehicles kept pouring in nearly until the raffle winners were announced. We kept hearing the car count rise higher and higher throughout the day and when it was over the official number was 1,402. It seemed they were directing people to parking lots we’d never seen them in before. This was by far the biggest one we’ve been to and likely the best-attended event of 2014. This place really rolls out the red carpet and tries its best to be good hosts so we’ll all come back again and again. We will. Enjoy the trucks.
Big thanks to Doug Gregory for his awesome series of articles on our Oct.2014 show! We do this show April-Oct. Bring your hot rod and join in the fun!
