Diesel Power Challenge 2017 Video: The Trailer Towing Obstacle Course Proved To Be A House Of Horrors For Some

If there was one part of the 2017 Diesel Power Challenge that provided the best all-around test of man and machine it was the trailer towing obstacle course. Using the same 10,500lb trailer that is used on the drag strip, the guys go from trying to rip it down the strip to trying to weave it around a torturous course of cones and gates that are passed through both forward and backward depending where you are on the course. It tests the truck’s ability to accelerate multiple times from a standing stop, it tests the brakes, handling ability, and most of all it challenges the driver’s ability to…drive. Some guys hammered this course like they knew it already and some got more lost than the mythical Fugowie indian tribe.

One of the underrated parts of this contest is low end acceleration. As you will see, many of the trucks labor hard with the weight of the trailer because they are not in a position to get the turbos lit and happy. You will be surprised at which trucks and drivers really show there teeth here. The course was changed up slightly for 2017 with some gates being tightened up and others being moved to provide a slightly different challenge for competitors than they have seen in years past.

As a guy who has a CDL, it is really interesting to see how different people approach the use of their mirrors. You may notice a trend among the fast guys with how they do it. Pay close attention and you’ll see what we’re talking about.  There you have it, now watch below!
