Here’s a collection of videos featuring engines that all have a minimum of 12 cylinders. Most of these are found in old Grand Prix cars but there are some surprises in this group as well. We’ll let you discover them as you roll down. Not all of these are in V configuration either! There was a time in the world (say…20 years ago?) that most people would never experience the sounds of any of the engines below, let alone all of them. Like it has changed the world in all other respects, the internet certainly has opened the floodgates to gearhead knowledge as well.

An engine’s audio fingerprint is one of the neatest things to experience and learn in the world of being a gearhead. I’m not 100% perfect but having spent enough time listening to drag race cars over the years, I can do a pretty decent job of picking out engine makes just by listening to how they sound. That being said, my knowledge does not apply to the screaming beastly creations you’ll head in the videos below. Since Grand Prix engines have always been kind of regulated by displacement, for many years the goal was to jam as many holes into a given size window. You’ll see 12-cylinder engines in these videos that measure out of 1.5L. That 90ci of 12 cylinder! On the flip side, there are some ancient mills in here that tip the scales (both in weight and displacement) at the other end of the spectrum. Grab a cup of coffee, lock the office door, crank the speakers and listen to some of the neatest racing engines from multiple eras scream and yell from your speakers!
