It’s always cool when we learn of the existence of something new. In this case it was a couple of things. Firstly the fact that there is a company called Himalaya that builds custom Land Rovers for bucks up clients who want the best of the best in an iconic package. The second was that the build an awesome, bespoke (made to order, effectively) version of the iconic Land Rover 110 in a crew cab truck configuration. Yeah, you need $250,000 but don’t stop reading yet. Why? We’ll tell you.

Before you throw your hands up and freak out about this thing and the price, understand that these guys are one of many different companies who perform builds like this. There are people paying huge six figure sums for classic Power Wagons that have been rebuilt, repowered and luxuriated, the same can be said for Ford Broncos and other historic off-road machines as well.  Ever heard of ICON? Same deal and we love the stuff that they crank out, which we cannot afford.

In the case of Himalaya, they start with a Defender 110, blow it all apart and rebuild it from the ground up. The factory power plant is ditched for a 520hp LS3 and an automatic transmission. The suspension, braking system, electrical system, and well, every system are upgraded to match the quality of the rest of the rig and the interior is custom created per the buyer’s tastes and preferences. If we could afford it we’d be waving dough at these guys. Why? Just look at the truck.

Having driven a couple of stock Land Rover 110s with old clattering diesel engines, they are amazing. Slower than a bulldozer, as refined as a Ford 8N tractor, and as capable as a mountain goat, they go anywhere. With horsepower and upgrades you can do all of that in comfort and with the modern amenities. It would be cool to dust off a guy in a G-Wagen driving one of these, smoking the off-road tires away from a light.
