Is A Jeep Cherokee Held Together With A 2×4 And Ratchet Straps Worth $1500?

Is A Jeep Cherokee Held Together With A 2×4 And Ratchet Straps Worth $1500?

We’ve all been there. You are trying to sell some junk, maybe to raise money for something else, maybe to just get rid of it, and maybe because it is so terribly horrendous that you can’t stand to look at it anymore. We know that guys love these Jeep Cherokees and that they have a super loyal following but we’re not sure what they are worth, especially when the’re clearly rotten to pieces, equipped with tires that need to replaced, admittedly have an engine that’s one the way out, and have structural parts of their being held together with ratchet straps and a 2×4. The good thing is that the seller is up front about all the issues and provided photos to give a good idea of just how far gone this truck is, but wow. $1500? Hell, the scrap value is decreasing by the day the more it rots.

What say you?

Thanks to Charles Marek for the tip!

Here’s the text of the ad in case it gets sold or removed –

I have a1996 jeep cherokee lifted with a 4 inch lift 31 inch tires that could last through the winter but will need new ones soon aftermarket rims also. The bad things are that the shackle mount busted through the frame so obviously it will need to be fixed I have a 2×4 and ratchet straps holding it to the frame and it’s sturdy not a hard fix if you have a welder or know someone who welds. It also has a lifter tick it’s fixable but will need a new motor or fixed in the future. Has a power steering leak in the line easy fix and it’s not that bad of a leak leaves a little drip on the ground. It has 203 thousand miles. The shock on the rear passenger side is disconnected from the mount all you have to do is mount it back up. It has a new gas tank it’ll need a battery also and a starter. Frame is a little rusty on the driver side rear where the shackle mount for the leaf springs are. And yes it is my daily driver starts up every day not a problem. Rear diver side door is closed with a ratchet strap and both passenger doors only open from the inside the button on the outside is pushed into the door and no longer there. It had a sun roof that works and power windows. Newer radio decent sound system. Basically a project. I’m willing to trade for a ranger or small truck nothing I’m mostly looking for a trade but make an offer I’m not in a rush to get rid of it I’m not desperate to sell it.

I love when people selling absolute junk put “I’m not desperate to sell and/or I’m not in a rush to sell” Let me tell you, NO ONE is in a rush to buy this POS. Heck no it’s not worth $1500. IMHO anything not diesel powered with over 200k miles starts at $1000k or less and goes down from there based on condition. This one I’d ask for 800ish and take anything over $350.

Sounds like he just wants the money back for the wheels and stereo, neither of which, imo, affect the price of a vehicle unless its PO was Rockford Fosgate.

I love how the seller points out how all the little things are such an easy fix. If it’s so damn easy why don’t you fix it to justify the outlandish price you want for a vehicle whose suspension parts and doors are held on with ratchet straps.

How about no? Does no work for you?

Ok, thanks for playing. Be sure to get your coat back on the way out.

Looks like the shock mount is disintegrated, and maybe hitting dive-shaft? Oh my, death wish anyone?

Question – What do you do with a car that’s SO BADLY rusted that you have gone to the extreme lengths of ratcheting timber to hold it together?

Answer – Continue driving around until the piece of junk falls to bits and possibly KILLS someone. Or better yet TRY and sell it to someone else so they can experience the whole DEATH trap thing.

Some credit is given – at least he seems to be pointing out / or high lighting all its flash selling points.

At a guess its around 5 years late for the SCRAP yard.

Maybe for $100.00 I’d use it around the farm to gather fire wood but it would probably fall to bits once loaded or break down .

Still all in all some funny shit .LOL

    Well, let’s see.
It’s not safe to drive currently, so I’d have to rent a trailer to haul it.
It’s too far gone to bother repairing the rust, so I’m now in it for a trailer & 10 hours to gut it.
The motor is about shot, so I can’t sell that for much
The rear axle is probably 3.55 geared, so it’s only worth 150 or so.
Dana 30 front axles are dirt cheap, so, there’s 100 bucks.
Now I’m left with a transfer case and scrap value for the hulk, maybe a transmission (but probably not)
Eff No I wouldn’t buy that crap.

I can give you an appraisal for it’s EXACT value…..but first we will need to weigh it:):)

A friend of mine up north has bought way nicer vehicles for under $200.00, and used them on his ice race course for several winters before sending them off to be squished…..to say the seller is “optimistic” is a grand understatement….

He’s not in a hurry to sell it. I feel better now. It does have a nice flag that looks to be in good. shape

I thought anything that can be Daily Driven is worth at least $2k! And once quick fix it you will have a bunch of ratchet straps! 🙂 Maybe I can get him to send the buyer my way

I used to own a 66 Cuba I paid $1.00 for it with a straight six and a three on the tree the body was rotting out from driving on salted roads in Ohio. I had to have rope rapped around the roof to hold the doors shut. And it was still more road worthy then this thing. By the way I eventually sold it for $30.00 to Pick A Part

Even though the driver could fall thru the floor at any moment, hey, it’s got a new sound system!
