Killer Action And Wild Mud Borne Hot Rods At The Brazoria County Mud Drags In Texas – Dirt Flinging Coolness

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – Charles Wickam had been dying to get back out to the races lately. This summer hasn’t exactly been the smoothest on record for Team Wickam but the reality is that the guy did what he needed to do to help his family during some days of uncertainty and we respect him all the more for it. Praises aside, we were pumped when he told us that he was heading for the Brazoria County Mud Drags in Texas to catch up on some MRA sanctioned mud drag racing. He picked the right event because there’s some incredible stuff on display in this gallery and it is the first of several we have from the race. Blown engines, turbocharged pieces, four wheel drive trucks, two wheel drives, the insane fully fendered piece you see in the lead photo, and a ton more. Diversity in the muck and mire!

Mud drag racers are just as serious as those that take to the strip on the asphalt or even on the water. It seems like it wouldn’t be as hardcore because of the surface but if you seriously think that, hit a mud drag event and see for yourself. These guys and girls are every bit the racer that their counterparts are and their surface isn’t really the same from one lap to the next! Finally, mud drag racers have to deal with the same stuff as everyone else. Action at this event was cut short due to rain of all things. Hey, you want mud, no slop, right?

Great photos! – my only gripe about mud racing is that they only run 300 feet usually – 1000 feet would be cool! – anyone know why they don’t have a longer distance?

The tracks are so narrow and the conditions change so much so quickly they can barely stay on the track as it is with only 300ft.
There wouldn’the be anybody to race the second round because all of the cars would be totalled.
