This Lumina-Camino Is No Hack Job And We’re Dying To Find Out The Full Story On It

This Lumina-Camino Is No Hack Job And We’re Dying To Find Out The Full Story On It

BangShifter Tom Campanelli is killing it lately. Not only was he the guy sending us live updates from Bradenton, Florida where Garlits was trying to run 200mph in the electric dragster yesterday, he also sent us this photo of a weirdo creation that is either called El Lumino or the Lumina-Camino depending on which way you want to Dahmer up the name. Here’s the thing, when you look at the photo below (click to enlarge), you’ll see the same thing we did and that is the fact that this car/truck is no bizarre, hacked up, disaster that was barfed out of someone’s shop. This was a professionally built rig and it is pretty compelling to stare at, if only to revel in its weirdness.

We’re dying to find out more about this thing because it was clearly built by professionals and we don’t think it was intended to be a flower car or anything to do with funeral stuff because the only casket that would fit in the back belonged to Hervé Villechaize and he’s not coming down to breakfast tomorrow. Does anyone know anything about this creation? Tom has more photos and information coming. Here’s his thoughts on the matter:

I took some pics of this car/truck a few weeks ago in the parking lot of home depot in Sarasota FL. I stopped by to pick up some supplies for the next days job & there it was.
I hung around for a while but never did find the owner, he might have been so ashamed of driving it that he wanted to hide. It has a real pro looking decal/sticker on below the RH headlamp “ElLumino”. My search on the internet turned up nothing. I did not look home built, looked more like a special package farmed out to one of the shops around motor city that built small run production based stuff for GM. I was parts manager in a GM dealership at the time it would have been built but never saw anything in the parts books or bulletins about it. Sure looks like a bunch of it came from the last series of El Camino. Maybe some bangshifter out there can help us with the details. I have more pics whenever you want them.

I prefer the ASC concept’s quarter glass treatment, but I can’t think of a better use for a Lumina. Give it the blown L67 from a ’97-’04 Regal and use it as a daily driver/parts truck.
