This Massive 1954 Chevy 4400 Woody Truck Is Claimed To Be One Of Two Ever Built!

The ad calls this truck the “king of all woodies” and judging on size alone, it would be tough to refute that claim. A massive 1954 Chevy 4400 woody truck, with seating for 16 people, an overall length of 23-feet, and a weight that has to be verging on 10,000lbs, this may very well be the “king of all woodies”. It is also one of two ever built according to the seller and the other one was destroyed in a fire. Commissioned by the Adirondack Lodge in New York for use as a shuttle bus to move passengers from the train station to their lodging, the truck was apparently ordered straight from GM like this.

GM did not build the woody bodies but instead farmed them out to differed suppliers. In this case, the body was built by Campbell and the seller says that the original body plate with serial numbers and markings is still attached to the truck. Pretty amazing if you ask us. The interior looks just about perfect and while the $475,000 asking price is completely mental, we do think it is awesome that someone spent all the money to have this thing restored. Not all of the wood is original as some was beyond fixing during the restoration so it was replaced but that does not bug us. The thing looks perfect and obviously the right types of wood were used to put it back right.

The whole thing appears to be flawless and while we can only guess at how slow the thing it (it has to be slug-like) it does run and drive and we’d be first in line to work that 4ft long shifter if given the chance. We’re not sure if this is the coolest Chevy 4400 truck of all time but we definitely think it is top five.

This beast has been for sale for a very long time, I dont ever see it getting anywhere near that asking price…

    1. Mopar or No Car

You haven’t priced woodies lately, have you? One-of-a-kind factory piece in fully restored condition = beaucoups bucks

  2. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

    WTF?

Is this the world’s most expensive Chevy?

A way cheaper replica could be built using a very similar Bedford chassis/cab from Britain and wouldn’t have the Bowtie on it..

    1. Mopar or No Car

Well, yes it could. And it would be a replica. Cool, yes. Comparable in value? Ask anybody who owns an authentic version of a car frequently cloned.
