(Words and photos by David Whealon) – Starting five years ago in 2014 with a new six class NTPA Grand National event with a single pulling lane,  50 or so pullers ventured south to check out what Galot Motorsports Park was all about. What they found was a new venue with a packed house full of avid pulling fans and a track owner that was committed to bringing the only NTPA Grand National hook to the southeast and keep it there for a long time to come.  Even with the limited seating, the single lane and the average lighting, the Inaugural Mule City 300 was an instant success. So in 2015, gone are the insufficient bleachers and replaced with grandstands to seat thousands along with the wooden light poles and portable light towers giving way to new Musco lighting and an added pulling lane to make owner Earl Wells’ vision become a reality. Galot Motorsports Park has now morphed into what is now one of the premier pulling destinations of it’s kind.

Fast forwarding to 2018. The 5th Annual Mule City 300 brought eight classes of badass pulling machines and twice the amount of entries as the inaugural event for the two Friday-Saturday night sessions. The classes consisted of the multi-engine Unlimited Modifieds, Super Farm, Super Stock Open, Super Stock Diesel and Modified Mini Tractors. Along with the Modified 2wd and 4wd trucks came the new class to the area of the Super Stock Diesel 4×4 trucks. Friday night’s show went off without a hitch but Saturday’s outlook looked a little bleak. With showers looming, the clouds opened up and dropped massive amounts of water onto the racing surface nearly destroying the track. After a couple of hours, the prep crew did an awesome job of skimming the muck off the top of the track and working the dirt into prime condition and getting the entire show in.  Once again, the once a year show did not fail to disappoint.
