NTPA Southern Showdown Coverage: More Killer Pulling Action From The NC State Fair

(Words and Photos by David Whealon)  Here we go with part two of some awesome NTPA tractor pulling action from the 2017 NC State Fair. In this segment we’ll be showing you some daytime action from session 2 which featured the Pro Mod of pulling 2 Wheel Drive Trucks. Each of these trucks are a works of art when it comes to styling and imagination. These beasts will have the stretched out stock looking appearance of a new Chevy or Ford truck right down to an antique T-Bucket or an old school Willys. One of the coolest pieces on the property was the pristine twin turbo’d early aged 1920ish Ford delivery truck “3 Boys’ Toy” of Steven Porter that traveled down from Ontario Canada. These blown 3000+ HP altereds put on a whale of a show with wheels way up tugging the ultimate boat anchor of a sled. Along with this fascinating class were the more traditional appearing diesel burning Super Farms and the mack daddy of the alcohol burning multi turbo’d 8000# Super Stock Heavy. Rounding out the session were the UPOC class of the super-fast small sled pulling Light 4 Wheel Drive.

In the 2WD class Maryland’s Bryan McDonald took his Willys “Suffering Sanity” to a wining hook to an astounding 352 feet. With another great pull of 343 feet in the smoking Super Farm class the John Deere 8410 “Green Fever” of Tennessean Burnace Vandergriff brought home the bacon. Okay no more food references. And the Galot Motorsports teammates of Brent Payne and PDRA Pro Mod drag racer John Strickland continued their dominance at the fair in Super Stock Heavy with Brent Payne in his AGCO DT225 “Get A Load Of That 2” taking 1st place with a hook of an almost nearly running through the scoring trailer mind blowing 382 feet. John Strickland in yet another AGCO DT225 placed 2nd with a not too shabby 369 foot pull. Strickland and his “Get A Load Of That” tractor pulled off a win of his own in the Sunday session. And Donald Walker in his “Gettin Busy” took home the crown in Light 4WD.

We’ll be back with more pullin’ action featuring the multi-engine Modifieds, Minis and Light Pro Stock.
