Old School Huge: This 1978 Chevy Stepside Is The 1980s Pro Street Car Of Trucks And We Love It

Old School Huge: This 1978 Chevy Stepside Is The 1980s Pro Street Car Of Trucks And We Love It

I quite literally learned to read with National Dragster and honed my skills on Petersen’s 4-Wheel and Off-Road. I still get that magazine delivered to the house today and have for more of my 36 years on this planet…like 32 of them. The trucks that fascinated me the most were the massive 1980s show rigs that were featured on the pages and then devolved into kind a parody of themselves. The chrome shocks, springs, and whatever else could be made shiny were appealing as hell to the eyes of a little kid. Growing up, it became evident as to why those things got bagged on so hard in the years that followed. They were useless and only ever saw the grass at shows as opposed to being used for actually off-road action.

This truck took me right back to those days of being a wide-eyed little kid staring at the trucks on the page and wondering what stuff like a camshaft was. I didn’t know spit about the engine back them but I knew a pair of 44″ Swampers that had been dunked in tire shine and wrapped around some little wheels looked neater than hell and that shiny paint sure seemed to attract a lot of attention. This is a clean, clean truck. It is really nice and I realize that it likely rides like hay wagon, will never tackle the Rubicon, and is much more of a show queen than a worker. I’m not apologizing for the fact that I love the look, because I do.

The ad for this one is straight forward. The truck has a 350 engine, it has been lifted a total of 15 inches. 12 of those inches come from a suspension lift and the other three come from a body lift. The cab has been swapped, as have the inner fenders, doors, and other body panels. Long story short, someone built this the right way. One of the funnier things is looking at the shifter and how short is seems. The body lift sure helps that!

The seller wants $15,000 and I sure wish that I had it!

The best part about getting older is driving the Hot Wheels and Tonkas we played with while young.
    Nice find!
