The Pickle Is The Most Bizarre Trar Ever Built: 1940s Power Wagon Mashed With 1970s Datsun – Beyond Freakish

The Pickle Is The Most Bizarre Trar Ever Built: 1940s Power Wagon Mashed With 1970s Datsun – Beyond Freakish

Usually Trars are kind of amusing and fun but the one is flat out creepy. The combo of a 1940s Dodge Power Wagon and a 1970s Datsun is strange enough but when you see how it was done, what else was done, and how odd it looks with the original Power Wagon grill shell still in place you’ll agree with us. On the functionality front this thing is probably a chugging bulldozer in the snow. It has a huge plow on the front and a wing plow that looks like it could be deployed at a moment’s notice as well. Does it strike anyone else odd that they would cover up the rear wheel wells like they did? Maybe they were already rotted out? Any other theories?

It looks like there was some sort of steel frame built to support the body and elevate it. The link below has dozens of photos at it that show the creation in lots more detail but among the shots we grabbed were the interesting use of a coil spring on top of leaf springs to provide that velvety ride that you’d expect out of a WWII era chassis and a malaise era body. The engine is the Power Wagon’s flathead inline six and we’re guessing the trans and the axles are all the same as well. There’s about 8,000lbs of angle iron welded all over the thing and the seller says that it last ran four years ago so with some marvel mystery oil and prayer it’ll probably light right off.

Some part of us wanted to rescue this thing and actually use it just to watch the reaction on people’s faces but there are other parts of us that wish we had never seen it in the first place. Well, you’re here now. Check out ALL of it below!

Thanks to Chris Eldred for the tip on this wild Power Wagon/Datsun mash up!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

This is in fact an early attempt at a traffic jam proof taxi. Drivers would leave their gridlocked cars, climb into the back seat of this beast and literally plough through the offending gridlock getting them to their destination and leaving them calm and relaxed.

The blocked up rear wheel wells?

This is to stop them being clogged up by body parts when this car was used in cities!

As is usual with these weirdo concoctions that break the surface here from time to time, I genuinely like this vehicle. Is that bad?
It’s so weird and outlandish, but so cool in a junky way with lots pf appealing patina and mad kitbashing going on. If I could afford to own it, ship it home and bring it back to life, I would. I’d ditch the plows and go around scaring the bejeezus out of tailgaters and Prius drivers.
