Whether you are building a classic truck as something custom, or are restoring it to factory, there are always going to be some stock parts that are going to be needed. Door handles, knobs, dash pads, steering wheels, door panels, headliners, all these can be customized or used in stock form. But man, some of these parts are not cheap. And these represent just a portion of the parts you might have to replace and spend money on. So when you can take original parts, that are not in good shape, and put some sweat equity in them to make them shine again, it might be the smart move. In this video from Ryan at Street Car Chronicles, he’s taking this approach on the door panels of his cool squarebody C10 project.
Video Description:
We are neck deep in the restoration of our 1984 GMC Sierra Squarebody. As you may already know restoring the interior on any vehicle is costly. It’s almost unbelievable at how expensive things have become. And even-though our friends over @southwestclassics120 have not only provided us with great quality parts and beyond awesome service, it’s nice to be able to cut some cost somewhere on your build. Our door panels are in rough shape but not bad enough to toss out. After spending a lot of years in the restoration business I find these tasks to be the most fun. Yes I know I could have bought a set of door panels and saved myself a ton of time. But for 65$ and a couple nights, the door panels look great….. well at least one of them does…. You’ll see what I’m talking about. Plus’s we put in our new Custom seat from Southwest Classics and it sets the truck off! Follow along as we start to inch this saga to a close, because we’ve got the @ClassicTruckNationals coming up at the end of the month! And the Tailgate Throwdown is right around the corner!
