Someone Actually Built A Hot Rod Manure Spreader – Fling Cow Dung As You Have Never Flung Before

Someone Actually Built A Hot Rod Manure Spreader – Fling Cow Dung As You Have Never Flung Before

When Tammy Thomas sent us a link to look at a 1949 Oliver manure spreader hot rod, we were a little leery to click it. Something like that sounded like a total spam situation and we didn’t want to further allow invading viruses to wreak havoc on our already taxed computer. But, we clicked it anyway after about 32-seconds of debate because who would ever use that as some sort of a way to scam someone, right? We’re glad we clicked the link because this large and crusty tub on wheels is one of the neater things we have seen if not one of the more practical. How else can you have fun AND spread manure at the same time? Typically we’d imagine that job is chugging along and trying to stay awake while the munched cow paddies fly off the back of the machine to help introduce nutrient rich material into the soil. Here you can do the same thing but hear the sweet sounds of a small block Chevy through what look to be open headers.

We have often heard junky cars referred to as “crap boxes” (or worse) but calling this thing a “crap tub” would not only be accurate, it may actually be a compliment. We don’t have lots of experience with 1940s manure spreaders but this one sure looks like a keeper to us with its weather beaten look, deluxe wooden bench seat, driving lights, front hunting stand platform thing, and yellow wheels. The dude who built this is obviously awesome and judging by his kid’s pedal car and the corner of the Caddy we can see in the shop while gawking at the photos, he’s a gearhead to the highest order.

We’d go on….but why? Here’s the text of the ad:

HERE IS SOMETHING NO ONE ELSE HAS,
TRUE BARN FIND!!!!!

BUILT SMALLBLOCK CHEVY MOTOR
NICE THUMPER CAMSHAFT
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
RACK & PINION STEERING

THIS THING WILL FLAT OUT FLY AND RUNS DOWN THE ROAD GREAT!!!

GREAT FOR CAR SHOWS OR PARADES!!!GETS MAJOR ATTENTION ANYWHERE IT GOES!!!

We’re sure it does and we’re sure that bombing down the road on that wooden seat in something that looks unsprung is a life changing experience. Any time you lose control of our bladder and/or bowels it is a life changing experience and that would be an hourly occurrence on top of this craft, especially at speed. The addition of the rack and pinion steering is both brilliant and hilarious. The whole thing speaks to a level of whimsy we have not seen in a while. Hmmmm…think we could run in on Drag Week?
