Red Bull and GoPro sponsor some awesome stuff but in our eyes, the things that they do with airplanes are really tops. This video is an awesome watch as it features pilot Hannes Arch taking off from a highway in the Alps…yes, a HIGHWAY in the Alps and zipping around the mountains. The scenery is amazing and the dude at the control is a full on bad ass as well. The airplane that Arch is flying is a Zivko Edge 540 which is a little hot rod of the skies. Powered by a 350hp flat six engine, the plane can touch speeds of 265mph and is designed to be super maneuverable and a literal extension of the pilot’s imagination and skill. The good thing for us as viewers is that Hannes Arch has plenty of both.
In the video, you’ll see Arch first take off from the aforementioned highway and then introduce himself before announcing that they’ll never be a “dull moment”. About a second after saying that he launches into rolls, dives, a stall, and some pretty cool turns around the jagged mountains that he is flying past. It is always amazing to us that stunt pilots are able to keep their bearings while spinning, looping, and tumbling their way through the skies. We’d be too busy screaming and whizzing in our pants to get the engines fired back up from a stall and this dude does it like he’s making a ham sandwich. That’s talent and some serious confidence in your equipment there!
We’ll never do as good a job talking about this video as you’ll experience watching it so hit the link below and watch the uber talented Hannes Arch take you for a breathtaking ride in his hot rod airplane.
