Hot rodding takes all forms across the globe. People work on and work up whatever they have at their disposal and in the case of these guys in Thailand it was a canal boat. These boats are long and skinny and are used for moving people, goods, supplies, and whatever else needs to be moved through the labyrinth of canals the country has to offer. Most of them kind of putt along and get their work done in a yeoman fashion but hot rodders live everywhere and that’s not good enough for some people, specifically the guy in this video.
What you are about to watch is a Thai turbo diesel canal boat with an engine that we THINK is a 2.8L GM Duramax four cylinder. Those engines are all over the place in that part of the world and we have shown lots of video of them running 11s in drag racing trucks and really hauling the mail in multiple situations. Because they are so popular we’re defaulting to that being the mill of choice on this boat. You’ll hear the turbo spool, see some smoke, and then watch as everyone holds on for dear life and the spray starts to fly. The driver is a total boss. The guys is 100% non-plussed with the whole thing and this is just another day at the office.
We’re not boat designers around here but it is kind of impressive to use that the little diesel is able to live at the tail end of the boat and not screw up the balance/usability of the rig. Also, we are happy to see a place where the LS swap has apparently not made it to yet. Don’t tell this guy, we love this rocket ship just the way that it is!
Looks like a 3.0 Isuzu with a transmission on the back of it, sounds like its pulling gears…
Yeah, I was going to say Isuzu or Hino 4-banger.
Awesome. That rooster tail going down that narrow canal is hilarious!
wheres the old guy ,or woman, standing on the bank shaking their fist at them.
Brian-Get one of these on the Charles River and watch the pedal boats scramble. 🙂
And you’ve just created a Top Gear challenge.
I’m guessing he was out of the “no wake” zone…
