This 1953 Chevy Wrecker Is A Runner, A Driver, And An Old School Worker You Can Own

This 1953 Chevy Wrecker Is A Runner, A Driver, And An Old School Worker You Can Own

Hey, a wrecker on BangShift? We never do stuff like this! Ok, we probably do stuff like this too much but can you blame us? This 1953 Chevy tow truck is really cool and it is something you can hop into and hit the local cruises and burger joints tomorrow night if you want. Yes, the truck has a 1954 cab on it but the seller claims this is simply because Chevrolet ran out of cabs late in the 1953 production year and actually used 1954 cabs with 1953 VIN tags. There weren’t THAT many styling changes between the two but we know how eagle-eyed our readers are and figured that there would be someone out there pointing that fact out.

The old inline six engine is hooked to a four speed manual transmission and the seller claims that the truck runs well and rides like an old, heavy duty 1950s truck which is pure perfection for us. The wrecker unit is an old Holmes and the twin pivoting booms are super handy and the whole thing is driven by a PTO unit that’s part of the transmission.

The truck has a pretty long wheelbase and we like the cosmetic additions made by the current owners in the form of the ESSO logos on the doors and some of the funny scripts they have added to the body. You’ll have to hit the link at the bottom of the page to see them but they’re funny and we’d leave them if this truck came into our grubby hands.

Because the auction is ending soon, here’s the text in case it disappears completely –

Nothing draws a crowd like an old wrecker. Hit at the cruse in and parades. This is an 1953 1/2   Original  Old Holmes Wrecker, Cleaned up and kept like it was. Its all factory body. 1/2 means it is a end of year model and they ran out of cabs, so it has a 54cab.  Runs great, stops like it should Drives like an old truck. 4 Speed on the floor that shifts smooth like new, Practically New tires, Dome light on top works fantastic.  Gages professionally rebuilt, Interior Paint stripped and repainted, insulated. floor boards solid, new floor mat.  Back PTO unhooked.  Motor runs solid and doesn’t over heat. Hearer rebuilt and works wonderful for Christmas Parade.  Windows taken out during cab make over and  replaced using new Steel Rubber.  Wipers not replaced but are in place in cab.  Garage kept in climate control.   The  Carburetor rebuilt but needs primed if the truck sits more than two days without starting.   Windows roll up and down, Cab is a 5 window and all glass good.

I have done a lot of work to Make it dependable  and safe for the grandkids to ride in.  Come take it for a spin before bidding ends.  I have had a lot of fun owing this icon but ready to let someone else have fun.

Like anything old it need kept up.  I’ve put a lot of money in it  this truck is sold as is with no warranty.  Buyer arranges and pays shipping. I buyer is local and wants to drive it home, start early and take your time.  I will try to answer any question through ebay

No sale at $5100 and relisted. Beautiful truck. Is that the right engine for that truck? I expected to see the older one that I believe is called “The Stove bolt 6” but I might be wrong. Again beautiful truck, would love to get behind the wheel
