The Mack Bulldog is one of the most identifiable brand symbols in the world and it is kind of ironic that this classic 1959 Mack B61 is kind of the truck version of that proud animal it wears on its hood. People often resemble their pets but rarely do truck look like their mascots! Short and relatively squat, this tastefully customized rig is something that someone took a lot of time and money to get right. No, there was not a box to check back in 1959 for an “extended cab” option on a B-series truck.

Not that it is easy to stretch any kind of cab but one like a B-series Mack with all of its curves, bends, and bulbous parts has to be even more difficult. We’re not sure if the additional length was hand formed or if another cab was cut up and used a s donor to stretch this one.

We dig the look of the truck with is relatively short wheelbase and the diamond plate style flatbed that has the wrecker style rear body surround protecting it. You could definitely haul some gear back there if you were on a road trip or heading to a show of some sort. The engine is a naturally aspirated Mack Thermodyne and that means that you aren’t going to be a hit at the drag races. We’re thinking that it is a Mack Duplex transmission as the seller says that the truck is happy at 55mph on the highway.

The whole thing is impeccable from the point of fit and finish. The colors would not be our first choice but they are really classy and the truck certainly has a dignified air about it. The stretched cab certainly gives the driver and passenger eons more leg room than they would have otherwise had but the third seat is kind of in a place that would be comfortable for a person less then 5-feet tall and under 120lbs. If you have ever ridden in the jump seat style rig jammed in the back corner of a 1990s extended cab S10 you’ll know what this thing would be like. We’d likely yank that seat and just use the back of the cab for storage of stuff while on road trips.

The truck has been upgraded to 12V electrical, the neat thermally controlled grill shutters work, every line, gauge, and piece you can imagine has been replaced. This is a spectacular truck and we’d love to own and cruise it in a heartbeat!
