One thing that is nearly impossible to do whether we are talking old cars or old trucks is to combine some hot rodding, some custom finishing, and some classical restoration techniques to pull a vehicle totally together. This 1935 Dodge truck pulls it off in spades and it is one of the coolest old rigs we have ever seen. With a classically restored cab, custom made bed and fender treatment, Cummins diesel engine, and custom frame and hybrid suspension system this thing wraps all of the necessary elements into a package that is drop dead gorgeous.
Starting from the engine compartment we have what looks to be a pretty much stock Cummins 6BT engine that’s hooked to an automatic transmission. The turbo may be upgraded but the intake elbow that crosses over top of the engine is a stocker and we’re guessing everything else below it is as well. That’s not a bad thing because with a little work it would really wake this truck up on the speed front. The frame is custom built and it uses a 1987 Chevy one-ton setup up front and a custom four link out back with coil over shocks.
The bed is custom made and the fenders have been widened. Combining those two things with the lowered stance gives the truck a much more flowing art deco style look. The cab has all of those great angular points that defined automotive design in this country for so long. The wide running boards and the lack of a front bumper make the thing looks really smooth. We dig the polished Alcoa wheels and the way that they tuck into those big front fenders when the truck is sitting still in the photos. We can honestly say that this is the nicest old Dodge truck we have ever seen from this era.
Lastly the interior was kept insanely simple and clean. The chrome shifter is a little on the jarring side but understanding the transmission means understanding the limited shifter options. That one is fully functional and we are just picking nits at this point. We’re head over heels for this truck and would love to be rolling down the road with our arm out the window.
