This Ice Boat That Uses A Saw Blade For Power Is Totally Genius And 100% BangShift Approved

(By Jason Mazzotta) –Also known as an “Ice Scratcher” this is a new “old” twist on winter vehicle fun and a pretty clever way of not only getting across the ice, but also getting the most out of that 12 foot John boat that is usually thrown under your deck or behind the shed for the winter. This Bangshift approved video is YouTube.com user WillCFish Fishing TipsandTricks’s take on winter boating as it appears he couldn’t wait for spring to get out in his boat.

By throwing on the gas motor, with a huge saw blade biting the ice, and with the help of the metal runners under the hull the boat is propelled across the ice and probably in WillCFish’s case to the closest ice fishing hole. In the video it makes some straight runs up and down the ice, accelerating pretty quickly and  we began to think, “Yea, I am really liking this but how is the steering capability and stability of a boat sitting on metal tracks flying across ice?” But before we could finish our thought, WillC cuts a corner like nothing on some pretty bumpy ice leaving us pretty impressed and totally wanting one of these.

I hoping the next step for these “ice-scratchers” is some serious power with some wicked saws that will leave some major ice and snow rooster tails behind the boats flying down the ice, but until then enjoy WillCFish cruise around the pond. This has all the makings of something that could be made into a winter sport (aka – excuse to drink beer in groups outside) pretty easily. Who’s in?

What a complete and utter lunatic!

Do the words saw, blade and ice send a shiver up your spine?

This is one of the most novel ways of committing suicide I have ever seen!

It’s really not that much of a danger, as John noted, it’s very thick ice, plus it take a lot of pressure to get that blade to bite in, and with those thin skids, it’s very unlikely the ice boat would be able to stay in one place for very long. Also that blade is probably very dull after a life lived on the ice.
Finally, he’s in a boat. If he punches through, it floats.

I definitely agree that he’s a lunatic though, but a good lunatic!

CHMG…The ice on that lake is at least 12″ thick, slightly thicker than the ice in your gin an tonic. 🙂

COOL – this guy is making the best out of what he has.

Sort of making lemonade out of lemons if you get me.

Funny, towards the end of the clip when he goes past what looked like a boat ramp I thought he would just head on up and all the way home. FUNNY AS

But then again how many CRAZY’S can be in town with one of these things chomping up the road – probably ONE

What a stupid idea! Why not just drive his truck out like the other smart people in the background did. Just sayin’
