This Is The Most Honest Craigslist Ad For 1972 International Scout Ever

Aermotive’s Kyle Fickler sent me the link to this Craigslist ad the other day and told me to take a look. What I found was an ad that’s funny and brutally honest not only about the state of the Scout but also about the romantic history of the owner. This is not one of those over the top Craigslist ads that someone writes to make some sort of a splash, this is a pretty well thought out and heartfelt listing for a truck that the guy bought, clearly likes and wants to fix but also realizes he likely does not have the time to do the thing justice in the short term. It is a scenario that confronts lots of gearheads who get into a project and then can’t quite see the light at the end of the tunnel when they are deep in the work. Lord knows, we’ve been there.

The cool thing about the listing is that the guy takes the time to go over everything about the truck. The things that need replacing, the likely cost to get it all done, the fact that there’s lots of rot and rust, and lastly the fact that if you show up with an International Harvester truck or Scout to tow it home with he’ll pretty much give you the buddy deal of the century to haul it off.

You may think that it is weird we mention the romantic end of things but since he did we’re thinking that it is fair game. This is what we’re talking about:

This is my third Scout II. The first two were sold to appease ex-wives. I bought this Scout, while single (again) knowing that it needed work. About six months after I bought it, and after I got several major issues repaired I brilliantly started a business. Now, I walk past it every day on my way to work and I question the wisdom of my life’s choices, especially the romantic ones.

That’s a pretty funny paragraph but again, brutally honest. This is way beyond, “new job forces sale” type stuff. This guy is kind of talking himself into selling this truck throughout the ad. Again, we have totally been there before.

The truck comes with a huge pile of parts and for someone who is a true Scout enthusiast this thing may be a diamond in the rough. If you are looking for a project to really sink your teeth into, this thing may as well be a 24oz hunk of prime rib. If you are looking for something to turn and flip quick, keep right on walking Cletus.

We got a kick out the closing line of the ad:

Warning: If at anytime you call it a Jeep, Bronco, or Blazer during our communications I will require an additional $500.

he believes it’s a high pinion dana 44…. umm, no, it’s not. to the best of my knowledge there are no factory-built, passenger-side-drop dana 44s… otherwise that would be the deal of the century

How many passenger side drop Dana 44’s do you need? They were standard in pretty much all jeep J trucks. in the 70’s.
