This Time-Lapse Video Featuring The Rebuild Of A Ford Flathead V8 Engine Is Awesome

The Ford Flathead V8 is one of the most iconic engines in the history of the automobile. It brought more power to more people than any other engine and it did so as reliably as any engine of its day, perhaps even more so. In cars, in trucks, in working vehicles, and in pleasure cruisers, the flathead was the engine that got America started on its love affair with the V8 that still continues on strongly today. This video is both a celebration of the engine and a glimpse in how one can be yanked, rebuilt, and stuck back in its original hiding spot in a relatively short amount of time…especially in hyper-lapse.

The guys at Hagerty Insurance made this video and it is part of a series of content that they have been creating around the work they’re putting in on a vintage Ford truck. In this one you’ll see them pull the engine, tear it down, bring it back to life, and power the truck up with it. Our favorite part of the video is the hyper-lapse trip to the machine shop with the parts and the pieces of the engine. We get to see the block get worked, the rods resized, and once back at the shop the guys assemble the engine. Rather than just going full stock, they add Edelbrck heads, an Edelbrock Slingshot intake, and tubular style exhaust manifolds.

We know that they don’t make much power but the Ford Flathead V8 will be eternally cool. The block casting was a wonder of science and engineering back in the 1930s and the aftermarket was essentially developed around this mill. This is some really fun stuff!
