Early Broncos command some insane money at auction and in private sales. They are cool trucks that have aged very well. The first generation trucks were so popular that the body style held on deep into the 1970s. Yes, there were some subtle changes over the years but the basic square shape with its short wheelbase and strong mechanicals was a great package for buyer over the course of many years. This Bronco, which we found for sale on eBay is a very special U-13 model. What makes it so special? The high estimate is that there are 200 of them left in the world. Guys who are really into these have told us the number may be half that or less. So what made the U13 such a rare commodity? It was what it didn’t have rather than what it did.
The U13 was essentially a Bronco roadster if you were someone from the ‘burbs, or a ranch vehicle if you were someone out west. Sold with no roof, no doors, and the tough as nails inline six, they were virtually devoid of options but made for awesome pieces to have around a working environment or as some sort of family woodland escape vehicle on the weekends. They were cheap, they were stippers, and they did not sell all that well.
You can spot a “real” U13 quickly. When you see the insert that was stuck in the opening where the doors would be and smooth out the area where the door striker and hinges would be located traditionally that means it is a U13. We’re not sure if anyone is making those parts of if they are unobtanium but we do know one thing. This is likely one of the nicest examples left.
As good as the restored topside looks, the underside of this thing is just as nice (nicer?). A true concours restoration this is the Bronco for someone who is a real freak for these things and wants the ultimate example to round out their collection. The engine is the 170ci inline six cylinder hooked to a three speed manual transmission. There’s a correct nine inch in the back with a Dana 30 up front. The color is Rangoon Red. The silver interior could only be had in ’66.
This is one amazing freaking rig and we’re not shocked at the $59,900 asking price. It is that rare and this example is that good.

STUNNING! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! But… “unleaded gasoline only”? Don’t remember that back in ’66…
Buy this then drive it Pebble Beach and Amelia Island concours to show up all those rich folk and their seldom-driven trailer queens
The door opening inserts remind me of the later produced IH Super Scout II.
Not sure if Factory or Aftermarket: yet I have seen one or two U-13’s with soft doors and soft top.
