Best of BS 2015: Driver Survives Complete Annihilation Of His Truck With Minor Scratches In I-84 Pileup

Best of BS 2015: Driver Survives Complete Annihilation Of His Truck With Minor Scratches In I-84 Pileup

This is literally unbelievable. The man you see pinned into the annihilated wreckage of his pickup truck survived needing only “two band-aids and some ice” after an horrendous pileup on I-84 in Oregon last weekend. Kaleb Whitby is the man who said that he needs to figure out how and why he survived the crash which officials believe was triggered by black ice on the highway. From the photos below, which show the truck in its pinned form and then sitting by itself on the highway, we think it is a Ford F-150 but we’re open to your suggestions as well. You can try to figure out how the truck got into this position crosswise between two semi truck trailers but even your brain will probably not be able to conjure up the terror this guy lived through.

With the frame of the truck under the chassis of the trailers the body was folded up and essentially compacted by the two trailer which, if loaded have dozens of tons of weight in them. Like a giant car crusher, they closed in, likely in rapid fashion, until the passenger compartment was reduced to less than a couple of feet wide. We have no idea how they actually extracted Whitby from this mess but they obviously did it in such a manner that it didn’t exacerbate the extremely minor injuries he sustained. When you start to think about all the different ways this thing could have folded and wrecked limbs, digits, and every other part of Whitby it becomes even more unbelievable to think about how fortunate he is. This is a 27-year old man who has a whole new outlook on the rest of his life.

The crash involved 26 vehicles, several of which were big rigs. Your eyes will bug out when you scroll down to see these photos. Simply shocking.

Judging by the wheels, and what’s left of the belt molding, looks like an 07-ish Silveraydo. Unfortunately for us Ford guys.

The I-84 pile-up involved about 30 vehicles, it was on black ice, down hill ,cars and trucks were wrecked in all directions! !

A very lucky young man! But as a whole please lets put blame where it belongs and quit making excuses. I get to experience all types of roads and conditions, driving truck for a living and living in BC, and in not one of the pictures shown was there black ice. That road did not appear dry and shiny anywhere, it was very icy and in most shots covered in frozen slush. Those conditions are icy winter driving conditions, so slow down or don’t go at all, don’t blame the road surface.

Does anyone else see the GHOST FACE that the scratches made in the upper right corner of the cab?? I’m not usually a believer of this kind of stuff, but that’s definitely something to make you think; something was on his side!!!

chryco63- You should learn how to read- or at least do some research before making a accusation on who’s at fault.

In his interview he came upon the accident and couldn’t get stopped. He caught the back corner of the trailer of the truck in front of him. He was struck again by the second semi that was behind him, which turned him 90 degrees and pinched his truck between the two.
