There’s dare to be different and dare to go right off the freaking deep end. This vehicle qualifies as the latter. Of all the cool and weird 2WD pulling vehicles we have seen over the years, this old VW Golf which has been stuffed full of blown V8 power, a huge rear axle, and anything else that would help it to become a successful pulling…errrr….truck is the craziest. For starters it is the shortest wheelbase pulling vehicles we’ve ever laid eyes on. The fact that the builder kept a factory style front wheel on it makes us smile and the fact that it just about pulls the mini-sled hooked to the back of it right through the end of the course had us cheering.
Overall the thing looks pretty clean. It seems bizarre to say that, but honestly it is about as well done as it could be. Yes there was some legit sawzall action on the rear quarter panels to get the pulling tires and huge axle to fit and the “fender flares” are on the rustic side, but the Golf doesn’t look like some weirdo clown car. It looks like the kind of Golf that any of us here at BangShift would need to own if we were forced to drive a Golf. This baby is right as rain in our book.
What else do we know about it? Not a damned thing and we’re OK with that. Back in college we road raced one of these things with a bunch of guys. Don’t think for a second we didn’t hint repeatedly about slamming a real motor into it. This guy actually did. Whoever you are, we raise our glass to your brilliance.
