Driveshaft failures on the dyno are near and dear to my heart as Buford turned the trick early in its life and also busted the transmission off the back of the engine in the process. While that one woke us up because chunks shot across the shop floor, this video which captures a highly modified diesel truck pitching its driveshaft like a weapon of war! There is a quick opening scene that seems to indicate that wheel speed of 175 mph had been achieved in previous pulls. That’s pretty freaky when you just consider the tires, let alone the critical speed of the driveshaft, which in short terms is the point where the driveshaft literally turns into a jumprope and stuff goes bad quick….like this.
The driver of the truck and person pictured with all the busted pieces at the end is Dmitri Millard, who is well known as a guy with a thirst for making huge power out of Duramax trucks. He competes in dyno competitions all across the country and has recorded wheel horsepower numbers in the 2,000 range with Duramax engines previously. We’re not sure what this truck was supposed to be making at the point that it failed but we do know the feeling of seeing pieces of your vehicle heading across the room, or in this case the street when you are on the loud pedal.
Allow this to be a HUGE visual warning to you. NEVER stand next to a vehicle that is running on the dyno. NEVER do that. Why? If someone were in the line of fire for that driveshaft they’d be severely injured and perhaps killed. Everyone got lucky here!

Thats crazy! that truck must be fast! It sounds mean and that diesel engine is pumping
All that money on the engine and not one thin dime spent on a driveshaft?
What do expect from diesel humpers???
