Here’s the funny thing about social media. If Ford were to have made this video and spread it around there’s an excellent chance that we wouldn’t have run it and you wouldn’t have cared but the fact that this was posted by some dude in Chicago and it features an act of kindness and a mechanical feat of strength happening in a natural environment means that we’re in. Hook, line, and sinker. Chicago, like many northern cities is still digging out from the last blast of snow and when narrow city streets get slammed with the white stuff, gridlock is a guarantee. I worked as an operations/fleet guy for years and I knew that the days after snow storms were going to be nightmarish, unending hell sessions that would make me want to jump off the roof. Lots of bigger trucks absolutely suck in the snow.
The driver of this EcoBoost powered F-150 is determined and not afraid of having his right foot touch the carpet because the guy starts off kind of gingerly and then goes to the deck, smoking the front tires and clawing his way ahead until the big truck, with both of his axles locked into action begins to help his own cause and the pair move up the street. There’s no real magic here, no real secret sauce, but it is pretty awesome.
Back to that social media thing. Any truck manufacturer loves this type of stuff. It is one of their (sometimes) goofy ads actually playing out in real life. It is a video guys show to each other at lunch and laugh about and maybe, just maybe it creeps into someone’s mind the next time a person asks about how those V6 Fords tow and what kind of power they have. “Hey man, I saw a video of one pulling a big rig!”
“Really?”….and so it goes.
