I’ve never talked a whole bunch about what I did for a living when I was a productive member of society. Basically I was an operations guy for a couple of large companies. I oversaw delivery guys and technicians that drove trucks and “did stuff” every day. Over the course of 10 years the bizarre, maddening, hilarious, and downright weirdo stories I amassed is pretty impressive and watching this video brought most of them bubbling back to the surface. The Fed Ex delivery guy in this video commits a classic mistake of letting his need to get his route done quickly outstrip his need to perform his job safely. Crappily for him, a neighbor’s security camera caught the whole nearly disastrous incident on camera.

You’ll see the Fed Ex truck come around the corner and drive out of the frame. Seconds later you’ll see said truck rolling backwards into the frame with the driver making a desperate and ultimately failed attempt to jump inside it and stop the truck. He throws down his package scanner and grabs onto the door but has to let go when the truck gains so much steam he can’t keep up. The guy should have played the lottery last night because his luck in (a) not being run over and (b) his truck missing a home by inches is uncanny. If the tires had so much as hit a pebble and chanced the direction of that thing, it would have gone straight through the corner of the home it manages to miss. It is almost like the backup camera had eyes enough to tell the steering, “Hey…Buddy….LOOK OUT!”

While I never had a driver with this specific problem, I did get phone call about trucks up on guardrails, one guy who ripped a transmission pan off trying to drive up a set of stairs, a truck in a public pond, and a few more. When the guys left in the morning, I used to call them “unguided missiles” and basically would hold my breath for 12 hours until they all came back into the “silo”. We’re thinking the Fed Ex manager in charge of this guy does the same thing.
