(By Greg Rourke) – The boys over at Liebherr must be a fun loving bunch of guys. You’d think they would be just a bunch of engineering nerds, busy designing some of the biggest equipment on Earth. But you would be incorrect. Liebherr likes to come up with ways to show what their big yellow iron can do. You may recall the “Excavator climbs the tower” stunt shown on these pages a while back. What do you do to top that? Maybe let’s show what we can pick up with our cranes. But what? How about some other cranes?
I have no idea how they figured out they could do this. And where did they get the rigging? I’m guessing they didn’t drive over to Farm and Fleet and grab some ratchet straps. How much does all this weigh? According to my calculations, 11 jillion metric f— tons. Margin of error, plus or minus 10 jillion metric f— tons. I suppose if you’re the guy writing a big check for a big machine used for picking up big things you want to see more than a brochure.
That’s where the department of How The Hell Will We Top This? over at Liebherr comes in. Let’s watch.
