I used a 96 Tahoe as my example. (I have one sitting on the floor that needs a crank kit, at the very least.) If you've got a good Cam, it hardly seems worth messing with the old stuff when you can get what you need for $1,700 at the push of a button.

and the plot thickens. There's a relatively local builder who sells the Vortec motor for $1600, or a short block for $950

so I'm having a motor built locally from the same builder I spoke of above and a bit less money.... I pick it up next week - which gives me time to pull this motor out, strip it and have all those great parts in a pile for the "core" fee.... lol, I did tell him there were issues with the parts - but he seems fine with that. He gets the block that's in the '40, and the rotating assembly from the Vortec motor I bought Sunday....

            and blow it apart again

I guess the bright side is I get the chance to clean up some things that I didn't want to take the motor out to change before ... blech

                and it's out

a bit of carbon, but nothing too untoward about the heads. I'll check for flat, clean, then reuse on the new bottom end....

Sunday will be clean parts, paint, and maybe finish a few wiring projects along with some header-beating....

somehow I feel I've trod this path before.
                    cleaning and testing

so I finally got around to doing the mod I've been planning on my parts washer... I added a pump (actually 2 pumps, the first didn't put out enough volume)

then onto flattening flanges on the header

I also did a lot to make sure the bolts fit better and that I can install and remove the #1 spark plug without having to remove the header.... bonus

I also gave the gasket a bit more of a chance to work by building up the edge on the header

                    and more test fitting

                    that's all folks...

well that's interesting.... the links don't work on Bangshift.... works everywhere else, though

                      let's see

                      nope, doesn't work

I'll be damned before I reupload all 1800 pictures.... I guess that's it for this on Bangshift. No worries, I'm sure Chad will keep you entertained with his pictures of lifted Blazers with 3/4 ton axles imagine the technological advance of that!

I think it's a Photobucket thing. Hopefully Photobucket will assemble their excrement and sort this out.

either way, I hope that those responsible can get this sorted out...

Ive noticed that before with Photobucket. They do some kind of update and it takes a couple of days for all their junk to start functioning again.

I about wigged-out the first time, now I stew mildly for a couple of days first.
